Pearl of Wisdom

'Look at the world through the eyes of those who have renounced it, for verily its inhabitants are quick to depart it and its opulence inflicts distress. So do not allow the abundance of what amazes you therein to deceive you, for it is but a little that you will take with you thereof.'

Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib [as]
Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 20, no. 79

Question : #415 Category: Miscellaneous
Subject: Buying on Ashura
Question: Salamu alaykum,

In regards to Ashura, is it prohibited to purchase anything new? If so, what do we define as "new" (i.e. necessary vs. luxury). Also, can you please point out the source/reference to where this issue can be supported. Much thanks.
Answer: It is Makruh or undesirable, and the 'purchased' item shall not be blessed on that day.

New may refer to a good or service that was purchased.
