Subject: listening to music without sin
Question: Is it possible to listen to music without enabling sin or losing one's thoughts per se?

Salaam Alaikum. Inshallah this finds you well.
The answer is, it depends on the music. There is haram music which we aren't allowed to listen to regardless of our feelings towards. There is halal music that is permissible.
Music which is associated with haram and sinful gatherings and environments, is forbidden. We aren't allowed to listen to it. If we do so, it is in itself a sin even if it doesn't lead to any other sin.
However, if the music is halal which means it isn't made to cater to a sinful environment, it will be permissible to listen to. In this case, if when we listen to this music we feel it takes a toll on our faith and it causes sinful thoughts for example, we should avoid it. It is best to try to avoid most music. Avoiding music will allow one's ears to hear things that others don't and it will allow one to feel and enjoy the true taste of faith.
