Sun and A Light E-mail

The most important source of light (nur) that comes to our world is the sun. Even the light (nur) from the moon is sun’s light because moon only reflects the sun’s light. Our sun is the source of light and heat. The relation between the words “sun” (shems) and “a light” (nur) is clear and these two words are used 33 times each. The singular form of light, “a light” is mentioned 33 times. Our sun is just one of the many light sources in the universe, but it is the most important one for us. The word “light” mentioned 33 times in the Quran is used equally 33 times with the word “sun” which itself is light. Below are two examples:

37- Among His signs are the night and the day, and the sun, and the moon.

15- …To you has come a light and a clear book.
